DIY Fall Décor on a budget!

by - September 21, 2014

It's time to bring out (or create some Fall Décor! ). Many stores have the fall decor out but I always like to make my own. While on my many coupon trips to Target,  I found some Chalkboard paint for $3.00 (I used the cartwheel offer which saved me 30%), a twin pack of mason jars which were priced at $3.00 (I also used that cartwheel offer), Black and Orange twine which were $1.00 each and I also used the cartwheel offer for that as well. The total for those items at Target were $5.60 + tax. And the Moss, Leaves, Pumpkins, and the Apple Cinnamon Potpourri were found at Dollar Tree for $1.00 each! That total came out to $4.00 + tax. The extra mason jar I have pictured was from Vlasic Farmer's Garden pickle jar I bought last year for free with a "try me free coupon". Please excuse the first picture. I made this while on my bed since I've been a little under the weather.

Here are the things I used:
  • Black and Orange Twine
  • Glue gun,
  • Mason jars
  • Potpourri
  • Moss/Twigs
  • Foam Pumpkins
  • Autumn Leaves
  • Chalkboard paint

Directions:
  1. Take the moss/twigs and stuffed the 2 smaller mason jars and put in 2 foam pumpkins. You can arrange the pumpkins which ever way you'd like. Make sure it's stuffed so much that the pumpkins won't move around when you shake it.
  2. Put on the lid and paint the front label with chalkboard paint. it will will need about 3 to 4 layers of paint. (quick tip: as your painting, blow so that the paint is drying while you're painting so that you can get the layers done and out of the way)
  3. Paint the cap with chalkboard paint. This too will need about 3 to 4 layers of paint. set aside to dry
  4. Grab the larger mason jar and stuff with moss/twigs and potpourri halfway, alternating the layers.
  5. Add the Autumn leaves. You'll need to cut these to make them shorter and to arrange them inside the jar so that they aren't bunched up.
  6. Finish filling up and adding layers. Be careful so that the leaves don't move around. Set aside. Turn on the glue gun. You'll need it for the next steps.
  7. Go back to the 2 smaller jars and cut 2 pieces of black twin about 6-8 inches long.
  8. Tie around the jars and make a bow. If the strings are too long then just snip them to make them a length that is to your liking.
  9. For the larger jar you'll need to cut 3 12 inch orange twine pieces.
  10. Tie at one end and braid them together. When finished, tie the other end tightly into a knot.
  11. Grab the glue gun and put one drop where you'll be placing the twine at.
  12. Wrap the twine around while gluing. Let that dry for a few seconds.
  13. Next cut a piece of twine about 6 inches longs and make a bow.
  14. You will glue this where your starting and ending point of the braided twine meet.

And you are finished! Check out the pics below so you can see a step by step look from beginning to end. Hope you enjoyed this fun filled project. This will take about 30 minutes to make and is super fun! Your visitors will love seeing this. You can place this any where you'd like; kitchen table, end table, coffee table, or on a shelf. I originally was planning to put this on the dining room table but I changed my mind and decided to put this on a shelf in the living room. I had bought those shelves at Target a few months ago when they were put on clearance. I paid $2.98 for that! You can never go wrong with clearance finds at Target.
