Stand Up to Cancer with Patrick Dempsey & Fifth Third Bank.

Fifth Third Bank has partnered with Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) for to support the important cause and foundation. Patrick Dempsey has joined in to support the cause as the spokesperson for the campaign. This campaign was launched last week and runs until October 17, 2015. This is a very important cause for me as I've had several friends and family that have passed away, that are survivors, and are currently fighting this fight. Every year, I cut about 15 inches from my hair and donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

Did you know that in 2015, an estimated 1,658,370 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 589,430 people will die from the disease. The most common cancers in 2015 are projected to be breast cancer, lung and bronchus cancer, prostate cancer, colon and rectum cancer, bladder cancer, melanoma of the skin, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, thyroid cancer, kidney and renal pelvis cancer, endometrial cancer, leukemia, and pancreatic cancer. The number of new cancer cases is 454 per 100,000 men and women per year and the mortality rate is 171 per 100,000 men and women per year based on cases/deaths from 2008-2012. The cancer mortality rate is higher among men than it is among women. (sited from www.cancer.gov)

In 2014, an estimated 15,780 children and adolescents ages 0 to 19 were diagnosed with cancer and 1,960 died of the disease. National expenditures for cancer care in the United States totaled nearly $125 billion in 2010 and could reach $156 billion in 2020.

How the #howifight Fifth Third Promotion Works:
Fifth Third Bank will support SU2C in a promotion that allows new bank customers to help fight cancer when they open Essential Checking Accounts. The promotion, at howifight.53.com, follows the national trend of companies giving customers ways to give back as they shop or do business. Through this campaign, Fifth Third Bank will give customers $150, and give $150 to SU2C when customers open a new Essential Checking Account with direct deposit, and make three online bill payments.  Fifth Third also will donate $1 to SU2C when people share eligible posts using the #howifight hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Vine, up to $100,000 during the campaign (which runs through October 17).

Actor and cancer advocate Patrick Dempsey is lending his image to Fifth Third’s new SU2C #howifight campaign, which honors the many ways people fight cancer. Dempsey, who is a passionate cancer fighter after losing his mother to ovarian cancer in 2014, is participating in the campaign on behalf of SU2C, and is a supporter of #howifight. He will be featured in a Fifth Third Bank and SU2C TV spot highlighting ways people can fight cancer, including partaking in a new promotion from Fifth Third Bank.

Patrick Dempsey is an amazing actor and is known for playing Dr. Derek Shepherd aka McDreamy on Grey's Anatomy. Patrick helped start the Patrick Dempsey Center at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. In October 2009, when Dempsey introduced the first Dempsey Challenge. Registration was closed after reaching the goal of 3,500 cyclists, runners and walkers. The event raised more than $1 million for the cancer center. His mother had been in the crowd as Dempsey finished his 50-mile ride. The Challenge has since become an annual October event presented by Amgen in the Lewiston–Auburn area. This year the event will be held on October 17-18, 2015. View the completed commercial below!
